Gravity concentration is one of the oldest, well proven solutions used to extract precious minerals from the surrounding material. It is based on the difference in the densities of the gangue materials and that of the target mineral. APT has a wide range of expertise in the gravity concentration field, working closely with Peacocke & Simpson to optimize and improve upon our technology and recovery in each process. Gravity concentration forms the heart of an APT process, ordinarily following the feed preparation section (washing or hard rock crushing and milling sections).
There are many different types of gravity concentrators, ranging from simple gold panning devices to static sluices and spirals and to more advanced jigs, centrifugal concentrators and shaking tables. The focus of any gravity concentrator is to reduce the mass of solids in which the heavy material is contained to a more manageable amount with the lowest possible loss of the precious material to the tailings. Enhanced gravity concentration takes place in APT’s flagship products; the GoldKacha and FLSmidth Knelson concentrator. These concentrators use a centrifugal force to speed up the separation of the more dense particles from the surrounding gangue material. The low environmental impact of gravity concentration devices makes them an excellent choice for many mineral processes.
